Hey Friends!
We are quickly approaching our winter vacation! The time is flying by in first grade this year. Please check back in January to see some pictures of the fun things we have been doing in our class. We are loving our smartboard. We have completed our class science fair project and learned 50 first grade high frequency words! We can tell time to the hour and half hour!

CULTURAL FAIR

On Wednesday April 15, 2009 our students took a trip around the world. We began our day with a school wide parade through the halls ending up in our school gym. Think the Olympics opening ceremony on a little smaller scale. We had flag holders and sign holders and many students dressed to represent their country. In Kindergarten they learned about Mexico. First grade taught a little about The Netherlands. Second grade learned about Japan. Third grade toured China. Fourth grade showed us all about the Cherokee Indian Tribe of North Carolina. Our trip was finished off in Canada presented by our fifth grade. The children have not stopped talking and writing about our day. It was a lot of work but appears to be worth it when you talk to the kids about the fun they had on this special day.

SPRING BREAK IS COMING!

Today is Friday March27 and we are trying to finish our math quarterly assessment. I still have to read with about 4 more students. The children have been really wonderful as a group this week as we worked through our testing and daily schedule changes. We will have two days of fun learning next week and finish up with three days off for spring break! Although we won't be coming to school, I hope everyone will take time read something everyday! I know I will! I have a stack of great books waiting to be read by my bed.

We love the Smartboard

We are really enjoying the smartboard. The technology is amazing and the children love to do anything that can be done with the smartboard. I'll try to put some pictures on the blog soon of us actually using it.

OUR SMARTBOARD WORKS!

Finally we have all the pieces to make the smartboard work! I got it up and running on Thursday and the kids were so excited!
We watched a video segment from discovery streaming. We played a memory game on brainconnection.com. We played a math game later in the day and used the smartboard to keep our records straight. I'm looking forward to our training on Tuesday Jan 27th to learn to do more. The children really like it and are more interested in paying attention to anything you put on the smartboard.
THANK YOU SPEAS!

Back To School

Its Wednesday of our first week back to school. It has been raining every day. The kids are doing great and really seem to be reading on their own much more. We are wrapping up our quarter on January 23rd. We will have some writing and math assessments as well as reading aloud to me and answering questions about the story. Most of us are ready for this. If you do not know your 50 high frequency words, PLEASE practice them each night with an adult at your house.
